The paper "COVID-19 and the impact on human rights” was published by the AIRE Centre on 28 April 2020 to provide a brief overview of the implications of the fight against COVID-19 for the protection of human rights, with a focus on the Western Balkans. Given that the course and development of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the corresponding government responses, have been unpredictable and remain subject to frequent change, the document does not seek to serve as a catalogue of measures and comprehensive analysis of the disease’s impact on the human rights situation in the Western Balkans. Instead, through this paper, the AIRE Centre's team of experts, led by Ledi Bianku, Associate Professor at the University of Strasbourg and former judge of the European Court of Human Rights, aim to raise awareness of the possible issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic and human rights.
