Access to benefits and local authority support 
On 2nd September 2021, we will delivered a webinar on access to welfare benefits and local authority support for people who:

-Make a late application

-Whose application is still pending a decision

-Have been granted pre-settled status.

The webinar also covered the impact of the Grace Period regulation and any other grounds on which local authorities may be obliged to provide support to those who fall outside them.

Late Applications to the EUSS
On 1st September 2021, the AIRE Centre delivered a webinar on late applications to the EUSS and Local Authority obligations to support late applications from children in care.

Mental Capacity and the EUSS
On 26 May 2021, the AIRE Centre, in collaboration with ADASS, delivered a webinar on supporting applications to the EU Settlement Scheme for people who lack mental capacity.
The webinar provided an overview of particular challenges faced by people who lack mental capacity to make an EU Settlement Scheme Application, basic principles under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the test for whether someone lacks mental capacity, making best interests decisions, when it’s permissible to make an EUSS application on behalf of someone who lacks mental capacity, who is responsible for making applications on behalf of people who lack mental capacity, and practical aspects of making an application on behalf of someone who lacks mental capacity to do so.

The EUSS and Children in the Criminal Justice System

On Tuesday 16 March 2021 the AIRE Centre will hosted a free webinar on how to support applications to the EUSS for children who have criminal records or who have may have issues with the 'suitability' requirement to apply to the EUSS.

Local authority duties towards children in the context of the EUSS

On Tuesday 2nd March the AIRE Centre hosted a free training session, in collaboration with Anna Dannreuther from Field Court Chambers, focusing on the responsibilities of local authorities in securing the immigration status of vulnerable children.

Mental capacity and the EUSS

On Tuesday 16th February the AIRE Centre hosted a webinar on the issue of mental capacity for applicants to the EUSS.

An Overview of the EU Settlement Scheme for Local Authority Legal Teams 

On Thursday, 28th January 2021, and Tuesday 23rd February, Eleanor Sibley and Hannah Smith delivered a training session to local authority lawyers on the EU Settlement Scheme. The session provided an overview of:

  • What the EUSS is
  • Why the EUSS is important
  • Who is eligible to apply for the scheme
  • Local authorities' obligations to support applicants
  • Practical tips on how local authorities can provide support.

EUSS - Preparing Evidence in Tricky Cases 

On Tuesday 26th January 2021 at 3pm, AIRE Centre Director Matthew Evans delivered a webinar on how to prepare evidence in tricky EUSS cases. It was aimed at OISC1 advisors, OISC 2 & 3 organisations which are unfamiliar with EUSS and other support organisations.

An Introduction to the EUSS

On Thursday 17th December and on Tuesday 2 February 2021 we delivered training sessions aimed at front line staff who work with vulnerable people & need help understanding the EU Settlement Scheme & where they can find support.
