Presentation of the latest Analysis of the 2020 judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Respect of Montenegro

On 27 May 2021 in Podgorica the Supreme Court of Montenegro, the Office of the Montenegrin State Agent before the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the AIRE Centre will present their latest report on the ECtHR and Montenegro entitled “Analysis of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in Respect of Montenegro Delivered in 2020”.

 

This report was prepared by the Office of the Montenegrin State Agent before the ECtHR and the Supreme Court of Montenegro in collaboration with the AIRE Centre and is the third report of its type after similar publications covering the ECtHR’s judgments from 2017, 2018 and 2019. The report seeks to contribute to ongoing dialogue at national and international level, most importantly between regional judiciaries, as well as between the Montenegrin Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. This document will also serve as a reference for the development of training programmes for judges, advisers and all those involved in the protection of human rights in Montenegro.

 

The Supreme Court aims for this report to spark interest in the ECtHR’s judgments in respect of Montenegro, which are an integral part of Montenegro’s legal order and an important source of law.

 

On 27 May 2021, initial speeches will be made by Stanka Vučinić, the Acting President of the Supreme Court of Montenegro, Biljana Braithwaite, the AIRE Centre Western Balkans Programme Director, and Karen Maddocks, the British Ambassador to Montenegro. Further speeches on the substance of the report will be made by Ivana Jelić, the ECtHR Judge elected in respect of Montenegro, Valentina Pavličić, Montenegro’s Agent before the ECtHR, and Miraš Radović, a judge on the Supreme Court of Montenegro. The report itself was published with the support of the UK Government and the Embassy in Podgorica.
