The EU Anti Trafficking Platform meeting The AIRE Centre attended the 8th EU Civil Society Anti Trafficking Platform meeting which took place in Brussels on the 6th and 7th of December. The members of the Platform discussed, inter alia, the recently adopted two reports issued by the EU, which came as a response to the requirements of Article 23 of the Directive 2011/36/EU on the prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings and the protection of victims of trafficking. Importantly, in the context of the "Report on the extent to which the Member States have taken the necessary measures to comply with the Directive" it was highlighted that despite substantial efforts undertaken in this field, EU Member States still need to step up their efforts in addressing trafficking in human beings. There still remains significant room for improvement, in particular: specific child protection measures, presumption of childhood and child age assessment, the protection before and during criminal proceedings, access to unconditional assistance, compensation, non-punishment, assistance and support to the family member of a child victim as well as prevention. AIRE Legal Project Manager, Markella Papadouli, contributed to the discussion, building on the findings of the AIRE EU Asylum Seeking and Trafficked Children in Judicial proceedings project meeting, which took place in Zagreb, earlier this month.
