Forgotten Brexit As a new decade begins and the UK is expected to leave the European Union with a withdrawal deal on January 31st, rather than the end of Brexit this would only mark the next step in the process. Following its departure, the UK will enter a transition period until 31 December 2020. The AIRE Centre’s work protecting our human rights with the power of European Law has never been more important as hundreds of thousands of EU nationals employed in the UK risk falling victim to a Forgotten Brexit and could face increased likelihood of exploitation and modern slavery. Forgotten Brexit is bringing together the UK’s leading experts on the effects of Brexit on businesses and lower paid employees by highlighting the horrific implications of EU workers failing to apply for their Settled Status before the deadline. At the event The AIRE Centre will provide guidance for those looking to safeguard their workforces and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation. Registration is required to attend the event taking place on the evening of 15 January at the beautiful surroundings of The Photographers’ Gallery in central London and with the UK’s departure from the EU only a few weeks away, this event is not to be missed. Hear from experts at the Migration Observatory and The Slave Free Alliance about the risks that the UK will be presented with over the next 12 months and learn from the legal team at The AIRE Centre what must be done to ensure that Settled Status doesn’t become the Forgotten Brexit that destroys lives and livelihoods. The AIRE Centre is needed more than ever before. For over 25 years it has supported the most vulnerable, including victims of trafficking and unaccompanied minors. Now its unrivalled knowledge of EU law has enabled it to develop desperately needed tools and assets to provide the help so urgently needed for endangered workers and businesses at this crucial time.
