We are now recruiting for the post of Chief Executive

JOB INFORMATION

Position: Chief Executive, permanent, part-time

Salary: £32,000 per annum pro-rata

Holiday: 25 days paid holiday per year, pro rata

Work  hours: Negotiable and flexible. Roughly 50%-66% of normal working week.

Line Management Responsibility:  All staff members

Reporting to: Management Committee

JOB PURPOSE

  • To manage the AIRE Centre’s office and staff
  • To liaise with the Centre’s Management Committee
  • To support the Legal Director who has responsibility for the Centre’s legal output
  • To drive fundraising
  • To contribute to the strategic direction of the AIRE Centre

This role would ideally suit an individual who requires flexible working hours and who has a strong background in a managerial role, preferably (but not essentially) in the not-for-profit sector.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Organisational Management (50%)  Taking the lead in all the organisational management of the Centre, managing reporting lines and ensuring the effective running of all aspects of the office and its work including office systems

  • Supervising the work of all staff including monitoring and managing staff workloads
  • Conducting regular staff appraisals and intern reviews
  • Contributing to decision making in staff meetings
  • Liaising with the Management Committee
  • Providing organisational support and guidance to the Legal Director
  • Taking the lead in devising strategic and organisational aims and policies and ensuring the implementation of policies adopted in accordance with those aims
  • Identifying and implementing the strategic aims of the Centre, in consultation with Management Committee and, as appropriate, staff

 Fundraising and Development (30%)

  • Developing, directing researching, and as appropriate, drafting or assisting in drafting high-level funding proposals, appeal letters, and other proposals (narrative and financial)
  • Assisting with collation and analysis of feedback data
  • Identifying, contacting and developing relationships with potential funders
  • Cultivating relationships with individual funders and grant making bodies

 Reporting (10%)

  • Co-ordination of the production of annual reports
  • Presenting quarterly narrative reports for Management Committee and trustees
  • Responsibility for quarterly newsletters and other promotional materials

 General (10%)

  • Where appropriate representing the AIRE Centre at events and networking with key stakeholders
  • Promoting the AIRE Centre to high level contacts

 Any other duties which s/he may be reasonably expected to undertake for the effective performance of the tasks set out above.

PERSON SPECIFICATION (Skills and Experience)

Essential:

  • Experience of working at a senior level managing and developing staff
  • Excellent people, project and organisational management skills of a diverse team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills to many types of stakeholders (written, oral and visual)
  • Excellent liaison/diplomacy skills
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with budgets and to understand financial issues (both organisational and project specific)
  • An interest in the promotion and protection of human rights and empathy with the AIRE Centre’s values
  • A commitment to equal opportunities
  • Good IT skills and ability to present electronic information successfully to a range of audiences
  • Experience of providing guidance and managing organisational reputational risk
  • Willingness to occasionally attend events during non-work hours
  • Familiarity with or commitment to become familiar with Customer Relations Management databases

Desirable:

  • Experience of the work of the non-profit/charitable sector, either as an employee, volunteer or board member
  • Experience of fundraising and donor relations
  • Experience of developing and promoting organisations in the third sector
