The AIRE Centre, Advice on Individual Rights in Europe, is a registered charity, which provides:
- Information
and advice throughout Europe on international human rights law, including
the rights of individuals under the provisions of European Community
Law;
- Direct
legal advice and assistance on a case by case basis to legal practitioners
or advisers;
- Expert
resource persons and teaching materials to organisers of workshops and
conferences;
- General
advice on international human rights law to public authorities. We do
not, however, provide assistance to such bodies in litigating against
individuals.
The Centre's
advice, information and representation service covers all aspects of the
rights of individuals in Europe under international law.
The Centre's multi-lingual team of specialist international lawyers responds to requests for its services from lawyers, non-governmental organisations and other bodies in countries which are members or aspirant members of the European Community or the Council of Europe.
Since the
Centre's offices are located in London, many of the requests naturally
originate in the UK, but the organisation is already providing assistance
in the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Spain, Albania, Romania and the Commonwealth
of Independent States and has a network of lawyers throughout Europe upon
whose expertise it can draw.
The Centre's
policy is to foster open co-operation and collaboration among European
non-governmental organisations working in the field of human rights and
to avoid duplication of effort and competition for funds.
